A team of 79 scientists from the Cern laboratory in Switzerland have written a paper crediting cows with helping cool the planet by producing cloud forming amines.
“A team of 79 scientists writing in the journal Nature this month address the puzzle of how up to half the clouds in the sky are formed. They found that humans play a significant role mainly through pastoral farming” wrote Chris de Freitas of Auckland University in the NZ Herald
Ian Johnstone of The Independent wrote that the team of scientists led by a British academic has solved a long-standing enigma to explain how up to half the clouds in the sky are formed. And in finally cracking the problem of how planet-cooling clouds are conjured from what might seem to be thin air, the researchers found that humans play a significant role.
The research showed that gases called amines – produced in large quantities as a result of farming cattle and other animals – can help form the seed particles when combined with sulphuric acid in the air. Breathe in air from a farm and it is likely you are getting a lungful of amines, as they come from the breakdown of proteins and can be found in animal slurry.
So there you go, livestock farming is saving the world. We have always maintained that the methane produced by livestock is harmless and that when the total affect of the livestock carbon cycle was taken onto account our pastoral industry was at worst carbon neutral. We still have to convince the Government of that but in the meantime farming, according to this research, could be in for windfall profits for saving the world.
On this whole global warming thing the Government has got itself into tricky territory by trying to quantify the global warming pros and cons of all manner of natural processes. They should have just stuck to taxing fossil fuel. So far we have not been able to get a hit on the Government and make it pay for its mistake because the major industry representative organisations and industry good organisations have been unhelpful as has Fonterra and other industry processors, but this latest information might be too much for these unhelpful organisations to ignore. They might end up having to be helpful.
Early days yet though my fellow sceptics, don’t go buying a new boat thinking that a poor family somewhere will have to go hungry to subsidise your business when the ETS includes a payment for every cloud you produce. We criticise the methane alarmists for having very small and closed minds, and the global warming scientists for forgetting that scientists are supposed to be sceptical. We should not make their mistake. Go outside and take a deep breath of amines and greet the news that cows cause global cooling with great joy, a sense of vindication, but also a healthy degree of scepticism, just until it is proven beyond all doubt that is.
Don’t expect to see this reported by the NZ media, and thanks to Chris de Freitas for getting it in via an op-ed. Also just for you GW sceptics don’t expect to see any reports of record sea ice cover around Antarctica. This years cover is the greatest since satellite records began. It surpasses the last record which was set last year. The IPCC are at a loss to explain it.
