Farmers are Not Polluters

September 5, 2010 By Robin Grieve

“Farmers are not polluters.”

This statement was made by John Boscawen of the ACT Party on Backbenchers ETS special on TVNZ 7 on the 25th August. I was away at the time so I watched it courtesy of a link sent by Climate Realists.

“Farmers are not polluters” he said “because methane breaks down in ten years”. He is right of course enteric methane from a stable source will add no more methane to the atmosphere than existed before so farmers are not polluters.

I have spent a lot of time with John and he has a good understanding of this.

John’s statement went right over the heads of Wallace, the host, and the other MP’s who had no answer, they could not dispute the statement that farmers are not polluters because enteric methane is all gone in ten years. I sent Backbenchers a three page document outlining all I knew about enteric methane and the false claims by the politicians. I was not invited to attend the show but Federated Farmers were, and with a room full of Feds not one of them backed up John Boscawen’s statement. I don’t understand why the Feds don’t use the air time they get to inform the public of NZ how wrong the politicians are about enteric methane. Instead of harping on about the costs that no one other than farmers care about if they used the media coverage they get to question the politicians about enteric methane it would expose this ETS for the scam that it is and get farmers off the hook at the same time. If just one of the Feds had said to Wallace that John Boscawen was right we may well have had a break through, but inexplicably they did not.

The programme was a waste of time really, a bit like the Feds anti ETS campaign. Worm farms became an issue and we learnt that Russell Norman has three of them, and some women who had something to do with sustainability, had one too. Much was made of the worm farm she had.

These people just don’t understand it at all. Guess what worm farms produce? Nitrous Oxide no less.
