Agricultural greenhouse gases shown to make only a minute contribution to the absorption of radiant energy

September 10, 2018 By Robin Grieve

Simon Upton in his latest report said he wants a scientific debate about methane. Well here you go Simon. This paper by Professor Emeritus Geoffrey G Duffy introduces the concept of radiative wavelengths in to the debate. When this is factored in methane and nitrous oxide’s impact is shown to be inconsequential.

His paper finds that the ‘culprits’ like methane and nitrous oxide can clearly be discounted as having any noticeable effect on incoming solar radiation, based on actual data, and not estimate-modelling.

So far the debate has been about how methane impacts atmospheric methane. Now that we have proven it does not increase it when it is from a stable source, Simon Upton cited an unverified note by Andy Reisinger that was based only on modelling that claims methane causes warming despite this. Well this is much disputed and also in doing so he has introduced a new complexity involving atmospheric chemistry which is akin to opening Pandora’s box. Well here’s Pandora Simon.
